Advocacy for Immigration Reform

We encourage participants in our Mission Education Ministry to contact their representatives to express their concern over the rising death toll in the desert. Since 1995 over 5,000 individuals have died crossing the U.S./Mexico border In September 2001, our bi-national board sent a letter to President and Congress of the United States, encouraging reform and we seek positive reform to our nation's immigration laws.

Additionally, Frontera de Cristo is a part of the U.S./Mexico Border and Immigration Task Force.  The U.S. Mexico Border and immigration Task Force is a border-wide coalition that brings together local elected officials, law enforcement, faith and business leaders, and community groups. In November 2008, the Task Force released a groundbreaking report in Washington, D.C. that lays out more than seventy recommendations for border policy.

In 2009, the Task Force arranged four listening sessions for high-level officials of the Department of Homeland Security and began meeting with DHS to implement priorities from the report "Effective Border Policy: Security, Responsibility and Human Rights at the U.S.-Mexico Border." This report has been the basis for the groups national policy advocacy in Washington.
